When GitHub Copilot for Jira fits
Your repositories are on GitHub, your developers already pay for Copilot, and your Jira site has Rovo. Copilot then works from inside Jira with no new vendor, and it became generally available in June 2026.
When Label2Prod fits
Your code is on GitLab.com or your own GitLab. GitHub’s documentation is clear that Copilot for Jira only works with repositories hosted on GitHub, so it cannot open a merge request there. Label2Prod is built for exactly that path.
It also works differently in two ways whoever approves the change will notice. Every merge request proves its change with a test that fails before and passes after, checked on a clean copy of the repository. And every update on the Jira issue is a new comment, so the issue keeps the whole story.
You don’t need to be a developer
With Copilot, the person who starts a task needs a Copilot plan, write access to the repository and a linked GitHub account: in practice, a developer. With Label2Prod, anyone who can label the issue can start it, including QA engineers, product managers and support. The merge request explains in plain words what was wrong and what changed, so the person who approves it does not have to read code either.
